Etsy Love.

Do you love as much as I do?  So many adorable items and many of them are handmade.  I love handmade.  This might be the 1,564,687 time that I have mentioned my love for Etsy.

Below are some recent Etsy finds that have me swooning:

Aren’t these cute?  Stripey straws are so fun and festive.  And, for the environmentalist in me, they are biodegradable.  It’s a win, win situation.  Find them here:

This handbag and others that this talented Israeli woman make are amazing.  I just bought this one (it’s my second purchase from her).  Very sturdy and they are vegan!  Find them here:

I am in love with this artist’s turbans.  They come in tons of different colors and styles.  Find them here:

These prints!  Ahhh, how lovely would this look hanging up in your home?  Find it here:

Kitchen Cart

I have this kitchen cart from Ikea:

FÖRHÖJA Kitchen Cart

Originally, I bought this cart to add more storage to my small studio in San Francisco.  It appealed to me because it was unfinished and left me the option of painting or staining it any color I like.

I am embarrassed to admit that I bought this cart 6 1/2 years ago (eek!).  Mind you, I did leave for nearly 3 years and lived in South Africa and London.  I am totally making excuses for not finishing this project but let’s focus on the positive; I am committing myself to painting this cart over the weekend.

Let’s get off the topic of guilt and focus on better, happier thoughts: paint colors!  I thought about staining this fine piece of furniture but that seems so, well, boring.  I am more interested in painting it a bold color.  Currently the color palette in my apartment is:

The color scheme above is mixed with bright pops of white and black.

Now, maybe I am being a little too bold but I am kind of in love with the idea of painting my cart gold.  Yes.  Gold.  Is that crazy?  I suppose I could go with white and call it a day but that just seems so boring… I think I will go home tonight, clean the cart and deeply consider what color this hugely neglected piece of furniture should be.  Did I mention the possibility of gray?  That could be nice too.

Pictures to follow next week. xo

Cleaning up my neighborhood.

As some may or may not know, I live in Berkeley, CA.  There are many reasons why I love living in the Bay Area; it is quirky, liberal, beautiful, full of small businesses, great food, and  there is a real sense of community.

The downfalls of living here are: there are a lot of homeless people (which I think we should work more diligently to help), a little more gun activity than I would like, and there is a lot of garbage on our streets.

Lately the garbage issue has been agitating me more and more.  I take my dog for walks everyday, and everyday I notice the abundance of trash everywhere.  It’s gross and makes our cute neighborhood full of Victorian and craftsman homes look like a slum.  This has led me to carrying an extra bag (in addition dog’s poo bag) and picking up pieces of garbage as I walk.  Simple, easy and my neighborhood is looking much better.  My good friend and neighbor is now doing it too.

I hope this inspires others to take the time to pick up garbage as well or just avoid littering all together.

Do you have this issue in your neighborhood?

Light Fixtures.

I have been looking at items to buy as if I were renovating/decorating my own home lately.  The best part about this is that I don’t own a house or apartment.  Go figure.

I am going to be 31 years old at the end of the month, so I assume my urge to nest is natural.  One can dream.

Below are a few light fixtures that caught my eye:||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_–_-

Aren’t they cute?  Are there any adorable fixtures you recommend?
